Bus tickets to nyc from dc3/16/2024 With luggage, larger luggage on buses is stored before you board in the belly cargo area below the passenger seating area. I usually use Amtrak rather than intercity buses for New York trips even when they are roughly 2-3 times as expensive, so it is no brainer to use them when they are only slightly more expensive. Though I think intercity buses are underrated, receive more slander than they deserve, and in many cases are better (and were better even before the pandemic) than flying, Amtrak is almost always better than buses for DC-NYC travel. During the pandemic Amtrak has had lower fares between DC and NYC on their regional (non-Acela) trains that have in many cases been comparable to bus fares. I haven’t used some of the other bus services services available like Vamoose, but I know some people like them. (I’ve used the Silver Spring/NYC buses a few times and they work well, though they do have a stop in Baltimore.) Some DC-NYC buses are non-stop excluding a brief rest break at one of the NJ Turnpike rest areas. I’ll note that Greyhound has NYC bus service from some points near but outside DC, like Silver Spring and New Carrollton. Most of the buses are nice with leather seats and good leg room, and in most cases they are fairly cheap. Greyhound is actually better than most people think for NYC-DC services. I think Megabus has also cut back their NYC-DC services, also due at least in part to the pandemic. It will likely be brought back at some point. Greyhound (BoltBus’ owner) discontinued the service during the pandemic. You can take some great ferry rides operated by the MTA so they cost the price of a subway ticket. Comedy shows and broadway are great options (TKTS for cheap broadway).
